Abstract

Diffuse interstitial lung diseases (DILs) comprise a broad group of diseases that affect the pulmonary interstitium, manifesting in varying degrees of inflammation and/or fibrosis. These diseases represent a significant challenge due to the complexity of diagnosis, treatment, and impact on the quality of life and survival of these patients. In some cases, factors such as etiology, genetic predisposition, and as-yet-unidentified elements can trigger a continuous progression of the disease, leading the patient to a state of advanced lung disease. In this context, lung transplantation presents itself as a crucial therapeutic option, especially when conventional interventions no longer offer effective results.
